Carbon Sleeve Bearings HT750 HT1000

Instruction Manual for HT750/HT1000 Carbon Bearings

Carbon Graphite Sleeve bearings do not require lubrication. This type of bearing relies on the graphite material in the bearing to provide an effective dry lubrication between the shaft material and the bearing sleeve. To insure proper bearing life, no oil or grease should be used on the shaft or bearing. To maximize bearing life, the shaft should be free of burrs, have minimum eccentricity, and have a shaft hardness of 35C Rockwell, minimum.

Shaft collars may be used for slight amounts of Thrust Load. Tight clearance (.010 to .020) between bearing and collar should be maintained.

Shafting:
For extended bearing life, the recommendations are as follows;

Shaft should be hardened to 35 Rockwell "C" or better.
Shaft finish should be 10 to 20 micro-inches (.25 to .50 micro-meters).
Shaft tolerance should be +.000/-.002" (+.000/-.051 millimeters)

Installation:
Take the mounted unit (Pillow Block, Flange Block) and slide onto the shaft. (For high temperature applications, proper shaft to bearing clearance is necessary. The HT750 and HT1000 have been precision machined to the required bore size plus .005 with a tolerance on +.002/-.000 to allow for thermal expansion of the shaft. Check your shaft material dimensions to ensure proper fit at the application temperatures.

Position and align the mounted unit on the shaft and tighten down with the required bolts. Use shims if necessary.

1-½" 1.505 + .002/-.000
1-¾" 1.755 + .002/-.000
2" 2.005 + .002/-.000
2-½" 2.505 + .002/-.000
3" 3.006 + .002/-.000
3-½" 3.506 + .002/-.000
4" 4.006 + .002/-.000
4-½" 4.506 + .002/-.000

For bores above 4-½", consult High Temp Bearings, Inc.

Stainless steel shafting or corrosive resistant shafting will maximize bearing performance. Oxidation of commercial shafting may eliminate shaft to bearing clearance causing restrictive movement of the shaft.

Contact High Temp Bearings, Inc. for applications involving extreme conditions including bearing exposure to chemicals and acids.
